Woo Hoo! found the notes. Ummm the notes sucked…did not write down the questions…just the answers -
Anyways, Moss, Pang, Strader, Maloney, Treliving were all there waiting for our slings and arrows…Funny how those vicious online criticisms always become softer, more gentle questions…or silence when face to face.

Q & A from CoyotesFest
Maloney:
The Mueller, Vbrat and Carcillo line looked really good thru camp and on Sunday DaBrat seemed to be the best player on the ice that day. Ross will play in the home opener (most likely paired w/ DMo). Spina will also play in the opener.
Confused as to why everyone keeps harping on cap space. According to Don we are at projected space of 35.3. The thing to remember is it’s not just a money thing when signing players (especially big names), you also have to figure in how many minutes they will be on the ice. TPTB are committed to providing ice time to the youngsters. Without the proper TOI these kids can’t develop.
my question - Camp seems a little unfair to Team C…whats the idea behind the lines and who actually chooses them?
Lines were created by coaches and other staff to get a jump on chemistry building. They are basically rolling 6 viable lines right now. The C group was combined to basically give those guys a chance to get a feel for the show and also to have a better staging to see who ‘pops’, or which players really stand out in comparison to their peers.
Not here to only see to players. Here to oversee building a winning system. That means not just the ice product (although the scouting changes were made for that reason). We need a scouting system that lets us get a jump on the competition in the later rounds as well as those visible diamonds of the first rounds. He and Keith Gretzky have a trust and a common goal that is working really well. We are building a system composed of speed, intelligence and grit and not only on the ice.
Draft day there were offers for the second spot…but they wanted a couple of prime…young…defensemen…in return. (anyone else read – ‘trade ya the # 2 pick for Bally & Z’?)
The idea behind having all these goalies at camp (especially these particular goalies) are that if the 3 all end up equally strong we can run 3 goalies…it has been done b4. If 2 turn out extremely well, the 3rd could be flipped later for assets.
The ready to play question – Mueller - if Peter is not ready to play, then they will return him to the minors. No matter what the hype or perceived need. No way are valuable pieces of the organization’s future going to be ruined by rushing them.
Key indicators that the system is working –
- Player performance – each individual continues to grow and move forward in their playing
- Less penalties per game – means the discipline and buyin are there and the system is working correctly
- More SOGs per game – means the offense is improving, the drills are working, the chemistry is evolving
Treliving:
Thrilled w/ this camp. Has had an opportunity to see the kids in person instead of numbers and films.
my question: What exactly is the plan now that we have essentially a brand new team and staff in SA? and how will that affiliation help the main team?
First thing Coyotes are going to try to do is build an identity, SA will also be doing this also, one that meshes with the system of the main team. There will be some things that will be different but the main components will be the same as the parent system. (when you here NJ you think defensive team, hard to play against, etc) Our identity will be hard workers, hard to play against, who compete every minute of every night. This identity will not only be the Coyotes but the Rampage and the Sundogs as well. We will be helping grow a hockey community in and around Phoenix. It’s a business and businesses need feeding, which means home grown players and fans who know the game from childhood and beyond.
Moss:
Estimate at least 1400 have come through the doors (by 2-ish) with people still arriving.
There will be a matrix board up at the north end concourse w/ constant real time NHL scores from other games, as well as in-arena updates.
